Q. Monitor Test Volvo System Tester
Q. Monitor test Volvo System Tester
In the Monitor Test, the Volvo System Tester measures a number of signals and presents the results in clear text.
Normal values
Most of the values which are measured in the Monitor Test vary with engine temperature; in addition, the signals influence one another. Certain values are also affected by the condition of the engine.
Normal signal variations
These values apply for a thoroughly warm engine (approx. 5 minutes after the thermostat opens) at idling speed, gearbox in neutral and with AC switched off unless otherwise indicated.
Regina
INJ. TIME
Injection timing in milliseconds (ms)
At idling speed and without load (e.g. AC) the basic injection time is approx 2.3 ms. Depending on whether the adaptive lambda control compensates for such factors as engine wear or minor air leakage, actual injection time may vary between 1.8 and 2.8s. While the engine is being warmed up, this time may be extended to more than 7 ms. When the engine operates without load at a higher engine speed than idling speed, the injection timing does not necessarily have to increase the time required at idling. This is because the engine has a higher efficiency rating at a higher speed.
CIS
The idle valve opening is shown in %.
^ Opening angle between 17-20%.
^ At speeds in excess of idling speed, the valve is in a standby position.
LAMBDASOND
Lambdasond signal's voltage in Volts (V)
The lambdasond signal should normally vary between 0.1 V and approx. 1.2 V. When the signal is near the lower value, the engine operates on a lean mixture and when the signal is near the higher value the engine is running rich. At idling, the value should vary between high and low voltage on condition that engine temperature is above 70°C.
^ Shifts between 0.1 and 1.2 V.
WATER
Engine temperature in degrees Celsius (°C)
^ Hot engine at approx. 75°C.
AIR PRESS.
Pressure sensor signal in volts (V)
The signal from the pressure sensor varies with the pressure in the intake manifold which, together with the intake air temperature, constitutes the load on the engine.
The values are at sea level; at higher altitudes, voltage increases by a few tenths.
^ At idling speed (780 rpm) 1.2-1.4 V
^ At highest load maximum 5 V.
AIR TEMP.
Air temperature in degrees (°C)
Intake air is inducted via the grille in front of the radiator. For this reason, the air temperature for a parked car with a hot engine is about 5-15°C higher than ambient temperature.
^ For a parked car with a hot engine, the temp. is about 35°C.
RPM
Engine speed in revolutions per minute (rpm)
^ Normal idling speed 780 rpm
BATTERY
Battery voltage in volts (V)
Battery voltage is measured at #35 for Regina.
^ 11-16V.
IDLE/FULL, A/C
Indicates if the idling switch, full load switch are on and whether the NC unit is on. The idling switch is also shown if only Rex-I is connected
REX-I
RPM and battery voltage (#6) from Rex-I are shown only when Rex-I is connected. When both systems are connected, the corresponding values for Regina are shown. See above.
