Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Information

Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information EFI-446

EFI-446 Pulsed secondary air injection system (PAIR) valve, leakage

Condition

The pulsed secondary air injection system (PAIR) pump valve is checked by disabling the long-term fuel trim and canister purge (CP) valve control. The pulsed secondary air injection system (PAIR) pump is started and the pulsed secondary air injection system (PAIR) pump valve is kept closed, if the short-term fuel trim integrator rises above a set value within 6 seconds diagnostic trouble code (DTC) EFI-446 is stored.

Substitute value
- fuel trim disabled.

Possible source

If EFI-442 (Pulsed secondary air injection system (PAIR), flow too high) and EFI-446 (Pulsed secondary air injection system (PAIR) valve, leakage) occur together:
- leaking pulsed secondary air injection system (PAIR) valve
- defective pulsed secondary air injection system (PAIR) solenoid valve.
- air leakage in the exhaust system.

If EFI-448 (Pulsed secondary air injection system (PAIR) pump, flow too high) is stored together with the above diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) the following also apply:
- pulsed secondary air injection system (PAIR) pump runs continuously
- air leakage in the exhaust system
- damage/hole in the hose between pulsed secondary air injection system (PAIR) pump and pulsed secondary air injection system (PAIR) valve.

Fault symptom[s]
- a muffled sucking sound can be heard from the engine compartment when the engine is idling.
