Signal Too High. Permanent Fault
Signal too high. Permanent fault
EFI-514 Engine cooling fan (FC) low-speed, signal
Checking the signal cable
- Ignition off.
- Disconnect engine cooling fan (FC) relay connector B.
- Ignition on.
Connect a voltmeter between relay connector B terminal 1 (engine control module (ECM) side) and ground.
The voltmeter should read approximately 6 V.
OK - Try a new engine cooling fan (FC) relay. Then continue with Verification.
Replacing component
Not OK - Check cable between engine cooling fan (FC) relay terminal B1 and engine control module (ECM) #A7 for a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault. Then continue with Verification.

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied as follows:
- Ignition off.
- Engine cooling fan (FC) relay and engine control module (ECM) connected.
- Ignition on.
- Select Volvo Scan Tool (ST) to activate the engine cooling fan (FC) (low-speed).
The engine cooling fan (FC) should run at low-speed.
