Throttle Valve Cable/Linkage: Service and Repair
Kick-down switch/throttle cable, replacing
Preparations
Remove:
- Cover (A) over the throttle control
- Circlip (B) on the cable adjuster.
- Unhook the cable from the throttle control bobbin (C) and remove from the bracket.
- Kick-down switch (D).
Remove the sound wall on the driver's side.
On cars equipped with SRS:
Remove the knee protection.
Removing
Unhook the throttle cable from the accelerator pedal
Release the switch's catches by pressing with a screwdriver in the hole in the bulkhead. Press out the switch with the throttle cable.
Check from the engine compartment that no residue from the catches lie between the insulation and the bulkhead.
Installing
Install a new throttle cable/kick-down switch
Make sure the connector is seated upward. Check that the catches grip on the bulkhead.
Install the throttle cable on the pedal.
Make sure that the rubber buffer is positioned on the accelerator pedal lug.
Hook the cable with the holder on the accelerator pedal. Make sure the ball bottoms in the holder.
On cars with SRS:
Install the knee protection. Tighten to 20 Nm .
Install the soundproofing panel.
Install the connector on the kick-down switch.
Fit the circlip on the cable adjuster.
Make sure the cable is properly routed in the engine compartment.
Hook the cable on the throttle control bobbin.
Place a 3.5 mm spacer between the throttle control bobbin's idling stop and the bracket stop.
Ensure the circlip rests against the bracket. Adjust the cable until it is tensioned slightly.
Remove the spacer.
Remove the circlip and install the cable adjuster in the bracket with the locking clip.
Install the cover.
Checking the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
Check and erase any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
