Replacing the SRS sensor module

Preparations




- Make a note of the anti-theft radio code if the car has an anti-theft coded radio.
- Ignition off.




- Disconnect the battery negative lead.

Removing the cigarette lighter compartment





Remove
- the cigarette lighter.
- the OBD-II cover.
- the 2 Torx 20 screws from the cigarette lighter compartment. Lift up the cigarette lighter compartment (1).
- the 2 connectors from the cigarette lighter socket and bulb holder.
- the OBD-II connector (2). Slide to one side and press out the connector through the cigarette lighter compartment.

Removing the center console




- Disconnect the connectors at the front of the center console.




- Apply the parking brake. Move the gear selector lever into neutral.

Remove
- the 2 Torx 15 screws at the front of the center console.
- the cover for the handbrake opening.
- the panel in the center console locker.

Note! Note! Detach the rear edge of the panel first.

- the 2 Torx 20 screws under the panel in the center console locker.




- Carefully lift the center console and move it back a little at the same time.

Note! If the car has a manual gearbox, the gear shift gaiter must be freed from the center console before the center console is removed.

Removing the sensor module





Warning! The battery must not be connected when the sensor module is removed or installed.

- Remove the 3 Torx 30 screws from the sensor module.
- Lift up the sensor module.




- Remove the sensor module connector by pressing in the catch (1) and folding the striker plate forward (2).
- Then remove the connector from the sensor module by following the directional arrow (3) in the illustration.





Caution! Never touch the sensor module terminal pins. There is a risk of static discharge which may damage the sensor module.

Installing the sensor module





Caution! Avoid touching the sensor module terminal pins. There is a risk of static discharge which may damage the sensor module.





Warning! The battery must not be connected when the sensor module is removed or installed.

- Install the connector to the sensor module by following the directional arrow (1) in the illustration.
- Lock the sensor module connector in place by folding the striker plate (2) back until it has passed the catch.
This must be done before the sensor module is in place.




- Install the sensor module (3 x Torx 30).
Tightening torque for the sensor module: 10 Nm.

Caution! The screws have pressed sheet metal threads and must be positioned so that the existing thread is not damaged. Take care not to damage the thread when installing screws.

Note! Use the old screws! When using replacement screws, use a type approved for connection to ground.

Caution! It is important that the sensor module is securely mounted onto the bodywork if it is to operate properly.

The electrical ground connection is direct through the mounting screws. It is therefore very important that the mounting screws are in good contact with the bodywork.

Installing the center console




- The parking brake must be applied and the gear selector lever in neutral.
- Install the center console by carefully lowering it and pushing it forward a little at the same time.
- If the car has a manual gearbox;
- Install the gear selector lever boot. Push the gear selector lever boot through the opening in the center console and press the trim into the center console.




- Connect the connectors at the front of the center console.





Install
- the 2 Torx 15 screws at the front of the center console.
- the cover for the handbrake opening.
- the 2 Torx 20 screws under the panel in the center console locker.
- the panel in the center console locker.

Note! Note! Install the rear edge of the panel first.

Installing the cigarette lighter compartment





Install
- the 2 connectors for the cigarette lighter socket and bulb holder in the cigarette lighter compartment.
- the OBD-II connector to the cigarette lighter compartment. Press in the connector and slide it to the side.
- the cigarette lighter compartment (2 Torx 20 screws).
- the OBD-II cover.
- the cigarette lighter.
