Rear Bumper Cover / Fascia: Service and Repair






Cover bumper rear

Note! The illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models. Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Removal

Removing the rear bumper cover





Remove:
- the 4 screws (1) in the bottom edge of the bumper cover and at the sides in the tailgate opening.




- the 5 screws (1) per wheel arch.




Detach the right and left-hand ends of the bumper cover. Grip the end inside the fender liner. Carefully pull the bumper cover until the 8 catches at the top edge release.




Remove the bumper cover by pulling it straight backwards.

Transferring components

Transferring components

Transfer:
- the cover for the towing eye
- the energy absorber (shock absorber).

Replacing components

Replacing side mounting brackets




Slacken off the 6 screws holding the two parts of the mounting bracket in place.

Note! A new type of mounting bracket which must be modified to fit older vehicles.

For new vehicles:
The central hole is covered by a thin plastic film (1) and the central screw (2) is no longer used.

For older vehicles:
Cut off the thin plastic film from the central hole on the new mounting bracket (1). Install the screw (2) and tighten.

Replacing the lower mounting brackets




Slacken off the 4 screws holding the two parts of the mounting bracket in place.

Replacing the upper mounting bracket





Removal
Slacken off the 6 screws.

Installation
Tighten the 6 screws.

Replacing the bumper guard




Place the bumper cover on a soft surface.

Remove:
- the bumper guard at the front edge
- the 8 catches.
Remove the bumper guard from the bumper cover.

Replacing the rear spoiler




Place the bumper cover on a soft surface.
Remove the spoiler from the bumper cover. First disconnect the 16 x catches on the inside of the bumper cover. Then disconnect the 2 x outer clips (1). Then pull off the spoiler.

Note! On vehicles that have a tow hitch, a cut-out must be made for the tow hitch in the lower section of the bumper cover. See illustrations A and B.

Tape the outside of the bottom section according to the markings on the inside. This is done to protect the spoiler section from the saw when making the cut-out for the cable harness connector for the tow hitch.
Make the cut-out according to the markings.

Note! Cut so that the raised edge on the inside marking the cut-out remains.

Smooth the cut edge using a fine-toothed file.
Remove the tape.
Clean the surfaces of the bumper cover where the new spoiler section is to be secured.
Press the new spoiler section into place on the bumper cover.
Check that all the catches engage.

Installation

Installing the rear bumper cover
Install the energy absorber (shock absorber) in the bumper member
Press the bumper cover into place against the mounting brackets at the ends and the bottom edge.

Install:
- the screws, 5 per wheel arch. Tighten
- the 4 screws in the bottom edge of the bumper cover and at the sides in the tailgate opening. Tighten.
