Control Module: Service and Repair

Transmission control module (TCM), replacing

Note! The illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models. Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Preparatory work

Information

Caution! New software can only be ordered when the control module is installed in the vehicle. The new control module identity is read off with ordering, which is required for ordering the correct software.

Caution! Wait for one minute after switching off the ignition. The main relay must have discharged the voltage before the control module may be removed from the vehicle. If the engine cooling fan is running after the ignition has been switched off then wait until it has stopped, and then wait for a further minute.

Removing the battery cable





Note! Shift the gear selector lever to neutral.

Disconnect the battery negative cable. See: Battery, disconnecting Battery Disconnecting.

Removal

Removing the inlet pipe




Remove the inlet pipe to the air cleaner (ACL) housing.

Removing the Transmission Control Module (TCM)





Caution! Do not touch the control module's pins with your fingers. Static electricity may damage components in the control module.

Remove:
- the connector (1), x1
- the nut (3), x1
- the gear selector lever
- the bolts (2), x3
- the control module carefully, so that the pins are not damaged.

Installation

Note! For tightening torques, see: Tightening Torque

Installing the Transmission Control Module (TCM)





Note! Make sure that the arrows correspond with each other and that the gear selector lever is in the neutral position.

Install:
- the control module carefully, so that the pins are not damaged
- the bolts, M8 x3
- the connector, x1
- the gear selector lever, 1 nut, tighten in accordance with specifications.

Installing the inlet pipe




Install the inlet pipe to the air cleaner (ACL) housing.

Installing the battery cable
Fit the battery's negative cable in accordance with: Battery, disconnecting Battery Disconnecting.

Finishing

Ordering software
Order the software in accordance with: Software Downloading.

Checking and calibration
Check that no diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) have been stored in the control module during the replacement.
Calibrate the gear position sensor .
