Note! The illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models. Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.
Removal
Removing components
Disconnect the connector for the front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S). Disconnect from the clips and clamps. Raise the vehicle.
Removing the three-way catalytic converter (TWC)
Only applies to the B5244S7
Remove the drive shaft. See: Drive shaft right.
Caution! Do not damage the bellows on the catalytic converter.
Remove:
- the 2 screws for the front SIPS member. Disconnect the clip for the rear heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) cable harness
- the front SIPS member
Note! Use rust-oil or similar on the studs.
the nuts at the junction between the exhaust manifold and the three-way catalytic converter (TWC). Disconnect the connector for the rear heated oxygen sensor (HO2S)
Note! Use rust-oil or similar on the studs.
the nuts at the junction between the three-way catalytic converter (TWC) and the exhaust system. Unhook the three-way catalytic converter (TWC) from the rubber mounting. Lower the three-way catalytic converter (TWC).
Installation
Note! For tightening torques, see Specifications. Tightening Torque
Note! To ensure that there is no exhaust leakage, see: Flanged joint, assembling Service and Repair
Transferring components
Caution! Do not mix up the heated oxygen sensors.
Transfer the rear and front heated oxygen sensors. Use: 999 5543 SOCKET NV-22 HO2S 999 5543 Socket NV-22 HO2S.
Tighten the heated oxygen sensors (HO2S).
Installing the three-way catalytic converter (TWC)
Install:
- new gaskets for the three-way catalytic converter (TWC). Ensure that the flanges are clean and undamaged. Lift up the three-way catalytic converter (TWC) and install the cable harness for the front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) for the engine compartment
- the nuts at the junction between the exhaust manifold and the three-way catalytic converter (TWC). Tighten. See: Tightening torque Tightening Torque
- the nuts at the junction between the three-way catalytic converter (TWC) and the exhaust system. Tighten. See: Tightening torque Tightening Torque. Hang the three-way catalytic converter (TWC) in the rubber mountings. Lower the vehicle.
Only applies to the B5244S7
Install the drive shaft. See: Drive shaft right.
Finishing
Checks
Connect the connector for the front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S). Secure the cable harness in the clips and clamps.
Start the engine. Check for leakage. Check the function of the engine.
