Note! The illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models. Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.
Note! The method refers to two different Volvo adhesive kits.The products in the kits must not be confused.For further information, see the Volvo Chemical Catalog.
Use special tool 951 2925 and 998 6030.
Removal
Preparatory work
Put the adhesive in the oven (applies when using adhesive kit 1161820).
Remove the cowl. See Plenum chamber Service and Repair.
Turn the door mirror mount to disconnect the door mirror.
Remove the rain sensor. See: Rain sensor Service and Repair.
Remove the guide strip at the bottom edge.
Insert both ends in the screwdriver.
Pull both wire ends toward the sun visor.
Prepare with tape to secure the wire. Feed the wire down in the left corner when then around the entire windshield.
Hint: Mark with tape sideways so that the window is installed the same on both sides.
Pull in the excess wire toward the right A-pillar.
Guide the wire up towards the windshield by pressing one or more nails (or an electricians screwdriver) in the adhesive.
Secure a winch on the windshield.
Secure the long wire to the winch.
Note! Protect the dashboard and panels using a plastic disc or similar.
Begin winching in the wire.
Warning! Use protective goggles.
Release the winch from the windshield. Pull out the lug (1) and move the winch.
Note! Hold the roll secure by hand so that the wire does not spin off. See illustration.
Keep an eye on the other wire end to ensure that it does not move.
Secure the winch (2) and winch in the wire.
Winch in the wire and move the winch as illustrated.
Winch in the wire again and move the winch as illustrated.
Close the hood and lift out the window.
Close the hood and lift out the window.
Installation
Installing windshields
Note! When bonding windshields, only Volvo's aftermarket adhesive is approved. This adhesive is continually tested to satisfy Volvo's demands on the vehicle in the aftermarket environment.
Note! Check that the adhesive is secure against the body, especially in the upper corners.
Cut away adhesive residue.
Clean with isopropanol.
Clean the new windshield with isopropanol.
When using adhesive kit 1161693, see Bonded window general, information Service and Repair.
Then continue with "Install".
When using adhesive kit 1161820.
Apply activator to the existing adhesive. Wipe dry.
Note! If any part of the frame is painted, the painted surface is to be primed using part no. 1161824.
Apply activator to the windshield. Wipe dry.
Add adhesive.
The adhesive bead should be 6 mm wide and 12 mm high.
Note! Mount the windshield within 10 minutes.
Install the windshield.
Install:
- the guide strip in the lower edge.
- the cowl. See: Plenum chamber Service and Repair.
- the wiper arms
- the door mirror
- the rain sensor. See: Rain sensor Service and Repair.
Note! Park the car on an even surface. Allow the adhesive to harden for three hours at a temperature of at least +5°C/41°F (otherwise supply auxiliary heating).
