Instrument Panel (IP) - Trim Pad Replacement



Trim Pad Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P)

Removal Procedure

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer toBattery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Engine Electrical.
2. Disable the SIR system. Refer toSIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 and toSIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5 in SIR.
3. Remove the upper garnish moldings from the windshield pillar. Refer toGarnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar) in Stationary Windows.
4. Remove the upper trim panel from the instrument panel (I/P). Refer toTrim Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Upper. Instrument Panel (IP) - Trim Panel Replacement - Upper
5. Remove the left and the right I/P insulators. Refer toCloseout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right (Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right) and toCloseout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Left (Service and Repair) .
6. Remove the steering column filler. Refer toSteering Column Filler Replacement (Steering Column Filler Replacement) .
7. Remove the knee bolster. Refer toKnee Bolster Replacement (Service and Repair) .
8. Remove the steering column. Refer toSteering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
9. Remove the hood latch release handle. Refer toHood Latch Release Handle Replacement (Hood Latch Release Handle Replacement) in Body Front End.
10. Remove the bolts from the data link connector, and move the DLC harness to one side.
11. Remove the front carpet retainers. Refer toCarpet Retainer Replacement - Front (Carpet Retainer Replacement - Front) in Interior Trim.
12. Remove the accessory trim plate from the I/P. Refer toTrim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Accessory (Instrument Panel (IP) - Accessory Trim Plate Replacement) .
13. Remove the cluster trim plate from the I/P. Refer toTrim Plate Bezel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Cluster (Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - Trim Plate Bezel Replacement) .
14. Remove the headlamp switch. Refer toHeadlamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
15. Remove the I/P cluster. Refer toInstrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement .
16. Remove the radio. Refer toRadio Replacement in Entertainment.
17. Remove the HVAC control assembly. Refer toHVAC Control Assembly Replacement in HVAC Systems - Manual.
18. Remove the I/P compartment. Refer toCompartment Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) (Service and Repair) .




19. Release the I/P compartment lamp by depressing the retainers.
20. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the I/P compartment lamp.
21. Disconnect the fuse block from the cross vehicle beam by releasing the locking tab. Reposition the fuse block.




22. Remove the bolts from the right end of the I/P.




23. Remove the center and the lower bolts from the I/P.




24. Remove the bolt from the left end of the I/P.




25. Remove the bolts from the upper I/P.
26. Reposition the wiring harness from the I/P assembly.
27. Remove the I/P assembly from the vehicle.



Installation Procedure

1. Position the I/P assembly to the vehicle.
2. Position the wiring harness to the I/P assembly.





Notice: Refer toFastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

3. Install the bolts to the upper I/P trim pad.

Tighten the bolts to 5 Nm (44 lb in).





4. Install the bolts to the left end of the I/P trim pad.

Tighten the bolts to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).





5. Install the bolts to the center and to the lower I/P assembly.

Tighten the bolts to 5 Nm (44 lb in).





6. Install the bolts to the right end of the I/P assembly.

Tighten the bolts to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).

7. Align the fuse block to the cross vehicle beam and install the fuse block securing the locking tab.




8. Connect the electrical connector to the I/P assembly compartment lamp.
9. Install the compartment lamp into the I/P.
10. Install the I/P compartment. Refer to Compartment Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) (Service and Repair) .
11. Install the HVAC control assembly. Refer toHVAC Control Assembly Replacement in HVAC Systems - Manual.
12. Install the radio. Refer toRadio Replacement in Entertainment.
13. Install the I/P cluster. Refer toInstrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement. Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement
14. Install the headlamp switch. Refer toHeadlamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
15. Install the I/P cluster trim plate. Refer toTrim Plate Bezel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Cluster (Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - Trim Plate Bezel Replacement) .
16. Install the I/P accessory trim plate. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Accessory (Instrument Panel (IP) - Accessory Trim Plate Replacement) .
17. Install the front carpet retainers. Refer toCarpet Retainer Replacement - Front (Carpet Retainer Replacement - Front) in Interior Trim.
18. Connect the data link connector (DLC) to the I/P and install the bolts .

Tighten the bolts to 2 Nm (18 lb in).

19. Install the hood latch release handle. Refer toHood Latch Release Handle Replacement (Hood Latch Release Handle Replacement) in Body Front End.
20. Install the steering column. Refer toSteering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
21. Install the knee bolster to the I/P. Refer toKnee Bolster Replacement (Service and Repair) .
22. Install the steering column filler. Refer toSteering Column Filler Replacement (Steering Column Filler Replacement) .
23. Install the left and the right I/P insulators. Refer toCloseout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right (Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right) and toCloseout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Left (Service and Repair) .
24. Install the upper trim panel. Refer toTrim Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Upper. Instrument Panel (IP) - Trim Panel Replacement - Upper
25. Install the upper garnish moldings to the windshield pillar. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar) in Stationary Windows.
26. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 and to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5 in SIR.
27. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer toBattery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Engine Electrical.
