DTC B0005
Diagnostic Instructions
* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
* Review Strategy Based Diagnosis (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
* Diagnostic Procedure Instructions (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview)provides an overview of each diagnostic category.
Circuit/System Description
The body control module (BCM) monitors the status of the park brake. When the BCM receives a ground input from the park brake switch, a serial data message is sent to the instrument panel cluster (IPC) requesting illumination of the red brake warning indicator. The park brake switch is normally open, when the park brake pedal is pressed, the switch closes and is grounded to the park brake pedal assembly.
Conditions for Running the DTC
The ignition is ON.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The vehicle speed is greater than 8 km/h (5 mph) and the BCM receives a ground from the park brake switch.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
The Red Brake Warning indicator illuminates.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* The condition for the DTC is no longer present.
* The EBCM automatically clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 100 consecutive drive cycles.
Diagnostic Aids
This DTC may indicate that the vehicle has been driven with the park brake engaged.

Circuit/System Verification
1. Verify the park brake is released.
2. Ignition ON, observe the scan tool BCM Park Brake Switch parameter. The reading should be Released.
• If the parameter is not the specified value, test or replace the park brake switch.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the park brake switch.
2. Observe the scan tool BCM Park Brake Switch parameter. The reading should be Released.
• If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to ground.
3. Press the park brake pedal.
4. Test for less than 1 ohm of resistance between terminal A at the park brake switch and ground.
• If greater than the specified range, replace the park brake switch.
5. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal A and ground. Verify the scan tool BCM Park Brake Switch parameter is Set.
• If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance.
6. If all circuits test normal, replace the BCM.
Repair Instructions
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
