Removal and Installation
REMOVAL1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
Engine Air Cleaner Intake Tube:
2. Remove the three engine air cleaner intake tube nuts.
3. Loosen the spring clamp located on the front of the engine Air Cleaner (ACL) and slide it forward, to allow removal of the engine air cleaner intake tube.
4. Remove the engine air cleaner intake tube from the vehicle.
Air Cleaner:
5. Loosen the engine air cleaner tube clamp on the front of the Volume Air Flow (VAF) meter and disconnect the air cleaner to intake manifold tube from the VAF meter.
6. Disconnect the VAF meter electrical connector from the LH side of the engine air cleaner.
7. Remove the evaporative emission canister vacuum hose from the routing clip on the front of the engine air cleaner.
EGR Boost Sensor:
8. Remove the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) boost sensor bracket bolt and the EGR boost sensor switch bracket bolt from the RH side of the engine air cleaner and position them out of the way.
9. Remove the two engine air cleaner nuts and bolt.
10. Remove the engine air cleaner from the vehicle.
11. Disconnect the distributor to spark plug wires from the distributor cap.
Distributor:
12. Disconnect the two electrical connectors from the top of the distributor.
13. Mark the distributor and cylinder head for reference during installation.
14. Remove the two distributor hold-down bolts and remove the distributor.
INSTALLATION
NOTE: One of the tangs on the distributor shaft is larger than the other. This allows the distributor to be installed in only one position.
1. Align the distributor shaft to the camshaft end and slide the distributor into position, aligning the reference marks.
2. Install the two distributor hold-down bolts and lightly tighten them.
3. Connect the two electrical connectors to the top of the distributor.
4. Connect the distributor to spark plug wires to the distributor cap.
5. Install the engine air cleaner.
6. Install the two engine air cleaner nuts and bolt. Tighten to 19-25 Nm (14-18 lb ft).
7. Install the EGR boost sensor bracket bolt and the EGR boost sensor switch bracket bolt to the RH side of the engine air cleaner.
8. Connect the evaporative emission canister vacuum hose into the routing clip on the front of the engine air cleaner.
9. Connect the VAF meter electrical connector.
10. Connect the air cleaner to intake manifold tube to the VAF meter and tighten the engine air cleaner tube clamp.
11. Align the engine air cleaner intake tube and install it to the engine air cleaner.
12. Slide the engine air cleaner tube clamp into position and tighten securely.
13. Install the three engine air cleaner intake tube nuts and tighten to 8-10 Nm (71-88 lb in).
14. Connect the battery ground cable.
15. Check and adjust the ignition timing. Adjustments
16. Tighten the distributor hold-down bolts to 19-25 Nm (14-18 lb ft).
