With Generic Scan Tool
HOW TO ERASE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (WITH GENERIC SCAN TOOL)NOTE: The generic scan tool may only clear engine control/emission system related DTCs. Transmision control related DTCs may have to be cleared by manually initiating the transmission self diagnostic procedure.
If the fault is no longer present or has been repaired, the DTC for that fault will be erased while the transmission self-diagnostic sequence is running.
Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) can be erased by the following method.
1. If the ignition switch stays "ON" after repair work, be sure to turn ignition switch "OFF" once. Wait at least 5 seconds and then turn it "ON" (engine stopped) again.
2. Clear A/T related DTCs by initiating the transmission self diagnostic procedure used without scan tools. Perform "How to Display and Read Diagnostic Trouble Codes (Without CONSULT)."Without Scan Tool
3. Select Mode 4 with Generic Scan Tool (GST) to clear remaining emissions and engine control related DTCs.
NOTES:
- If the diagnostic trouble code is not for A/T related items, skip step 2.
- If the battery terminal is disconnected, the diagnostic trouble code will be lost within 24 hours.
- Mode 4 on the GST may only clear engine control/emission related DTCs.
