Pinpoint Test G: The Audio Unit Is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 130, Audio System for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number
Normal Operation
The audio unit receives voltage when the ignition switch is in the ACC, RUN and START positions. It also receives voltage when the ignition switch is in the OFF position and the accessory delay relay is energized.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Fuse
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Audio unit
PINPOINT TEST G: THE AUDIO UNIT IS INOPERATIVE/DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY
NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

G1 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE AUDIO UNIT
- Ignition ON.
- Operate the audio unit in radio tuner (AM/FM) mode.
- Is the audio unit display illuminated?
Yes
GO to G2.
No
GO to G4.

G2 CHECK FOR SOUND COMING FROM THE AUDIO UNIT SPEAKERS
- Carry out the speaker walk-around test.
- Verify that sound is coming from the speakers.
- Is there sound coming from the speakers?
Yes
GO to G3.
No
INSTALL a new audio unit. REFER to Audio Unit Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.

G3 CHECK THE CONTROLS AND FEATURES
- Refer to the Owner's Literature for audio system controls.
- Verify that all the controls and features operate correctly.
- Do all the controls and features operate correctly?
Yes
The system is operating correctly at this time.
No
INSTALL a new audio unit. REFER to Audio Unit Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.

G4 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE POWER WINDOWS
- Ignition ON.
- Operate the power windows using the driver window control switch.
- Do the power windows operate?
Yes
GO to G5.
No
REFER to Glass, Frames and Mechanisms Testing and Inspection.

G5 CHECK THE AUDIO UNIT RUN/ACC VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Audio Unit C290A.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between the audio unit C290A-2, circuit 1499 (PK/LG), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage above 10 volts?
Yes
GO to G6
No
VERIFY CJB fuse 32 (7.5A) is OK. If OK GO to G7. If not OK, REFER to the Wiring Diagrams to identify the causes of the circuit short. TEST the system for normal operation. Diagrams By Number

G6 CHECK THE AUDIO UNIT GROUND CIRCUIT FOR CONTINUITY
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure the resistance between the audio unit C290A-6, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance below 5 ohms?
Yes
GO to G8.
No
REPAIR circuit 57 (BK). TEST the system for normal operation.

G7 CHECK THE AUDIO UNIT RUN/ACC VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT
- Disconnect: CJB Fuse 32 (7.5A).
- Measure the voltage between CJB fuse 32 voltage supply pin cavity and ground.
- Is the voltage above 10 volts?
Yes
REPAIR circuit 1499 (PK/LG) open. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR circuit 193 (YE/LG) open. TEST the system for normal operation.

G8 CHECK FOR CORRECT AUDIO UNIT OPERATION
- Check the audio unit connector C290A for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- Pushed-out pins
- Repair any identified concerns.
- Connect the CJB connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new audio unit. REFER to Audio Unit Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
