Instrument Panel (IP) - Trim Pad Replacement



Trim Pad Replacement - IP

Removal Procedure





1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Engine Electrical.
2. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
3. Remove the right and the left instrument panel (I/P) access hole covers. Refer to Instrument Panel (IP) Outer Trim Cover Replacement (Instrument Panel (IP) - Outer Trim Cover Replacement).
4. Remove the I/P insulators. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right (Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right) and to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Left (Service and Repair).
5. Remove the front carpet retainers. Refer to Carpet Retainer Replacement - Front (Carpet Retainer Replacement - Front) in Interior Trim.
6. Remove the windshield upper garnish moldings. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar) in Interior Trim.
7. Remove the I/P upper trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (IP) Upper (Instrument Panel (IP) - Trim Pad Replacement - Upper).
8. Remove the front floor console. Refer to Console Replacement - Front Floor (Console Replacement - Front Floor).
9. Remove the steering column filler. Refer to Steering Column Filler Replacement (Steering Column Filler Replacement).
10. Disconnect the data link connector.




11. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement (Service and Repair).
12. Remove the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
13. Remove the hood release handle. Refer to Hood Latch Release Handle Replacement (Hood Latch Release Handle Replacement) in Body Front End.
14. Remove the I/P cluster trim plate. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - IP Cluster (Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - Trim Panel Replacement).
15. Remove the I/P cluster.
16. Remove the I/P accessory trim plate. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - IP Accessory (Instrument Panel (IP) - Accessory Trim Plate Replacement).
17. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
18. Remove the HVAC control module. Refer to HVAC Control Module Replacement in HVAC Systems - Automatic and HVAC Control Assembly Replacement in HVAC Systems - Manual.
19. Remove the I/P lighter.
20. Remove the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition Switch Replacement. Service and Repair
21. Remove the hazard warning and cruise control switch.
22. Remove the switch bank.
23. Remove the air temperature sensor. Refer to Inside Air Temperature Sensor Replacement in HVAC Systems - Automatic.
24. Remove the I/P compartment. Refer to Compartment Replacement - IP (Instrument Panel Compartment - Replacement).
25. Remove the I/P compartment lamp switch.
26. Reposition the fuse block.
27. Remove the driver side I/P trim pad bolts from the hinge pillar.




28. Remove the passenger side I/P trim pad bolts from the hinge pillar.




29. Remove the I/P trim pad bolts from the cluster pocket.
30. Remove the I/P trim pad bolts near the windshield.
31. Reposition the I/P wiring harness.
32. Remove the I/P trim pad from the vehicle.


Installation Procedure





1. Align the I/P trim pad to the vehicle.
2. Reposition the I/P wiring harness.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

3. Install the I/P trim pad bolts near the windshield.

Tighten the bolts to 5 N.m (44 lb in).

4. Install the I/P trim pad bolts to the cluster pocket.

Tighten the bolts to 5 N.m (44 lb in).





5. Install the passenger side I/P trim pad bolts to the hinge pillar.

Tighten the bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).





6. Install the driver side I/P trim pad bolts to the hinge pillar.

Tighten the bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).





7. Install the fuse block.
8. Install the I/P compartment lamp switch.
9. Install the I/P compartment. Refer to Compartment Replacement - IP (Instrument Panel Compartment - Replacement).
10. Install the air temperature sensor. Refer to Inside Air Temperature Sensor Replacement in HVAC Systems - Automatic.
11. Install the switch bank.
12. Install the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition Switch Replacement Service and Repair.
13. Install the hazard warning and cruise control switch.
14. Install the I/P lighter.
15. Install the HVAC control module. Refer to HVAC Control Module Replacement in HVAC Systems - Automatic or to HVAC Control Assembly Replacement in HVAC Systems - Manual.
16. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
17. Install the I/P accessory trim plate. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - IP Accessory (Instrument Panel (IP) - Accessory Trim Plate Replacement).
18. Install the I/P cluster.
19. Install the I/P cluster trim plate. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - IP Cluster (Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - Trim Panel Replacement).
20. Install the hood release handle. Refer to Hood Latch Release Handle Replacement (Hood Latch Release Handle Replacement) in Body Front End.
21. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
22. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement (Service and Repair).
23. Install the data link connector.

Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

24. Install the steering column filler. Refer to Ignition Switch Replacement (Service and Repair).
25. Install the front floor console. Refer to Console Replacement - Front Floor (Console Replacement - Front Floor).
26. Install the I/P upper trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (IP) Upper (Instrument Panel (IP) - Trim Pad Replacement - Upper).
27. Install the windshield side upper garnish moldings. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar) in Interior Trim.
28. Install the I/P insulators. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right (Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right) and to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Left (Service and Repair).
29. Install the front carpet retainers. Refer to Carpet Retainer Replacement - Front (Carpet Retainer Replacement - Front) in Interior Trim.
30. Install the right and the left I/P access hole covers. Refer to Instrument Panel (IP) Outer Trim Cover Replacement (Instrument Panel (IP) - Outer Trim Cover Replacement).
31. Enable SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
32. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Engine Electrical.
