Oil Level Sensor: Service and Repair
Engine Oil Level Sensor and/or Switch Replacement
Removal Procedure
Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning (Battery Disconnect Warning).
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair).
Danger: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.
Warning: Refer to Safety Glasses Warning (Safety Glasses Warning).
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
3. Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (Service and Repair).
4. Disconnect the oil level/temperature sensor electrical connector (1).
5. Remove the engine oil lever sensor (1) from the oil pan (2).
Installation Procedure
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
1. Install the engine oil level sensor (1) to the oil pan (2) and tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).
2. Connect the oil level/temperature sensor electrical connector (1).
3. Lower the vehicle.
4. Replace the engine oil and oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (Service and Repair).
5. Reset the GM Oil Life System. Refer to GM Oil Life System Resetting (Service and Repair).
