Preliminary Work:
Preliminary work for removing transmission
1. Disconnect battery, please refer to: Vehicle/ Starting and Charging/ Battery/ Service and Repair
2. Remove engine guard, please refer to: Vehicle/ Body and Frame/ Exterior Moulding and Trim/ Service and Repair
3. Remove the starter, please refer to: Vehicle/ Starting and Charging/ Starting System/ Starter Motor/ Service and Repair
4. Remove rear cardan shaft, please refer to: Vehicle/ Transmission and Drivetrain/ Drive/Propeller Shafts, Bearing and Joints/ Drive/Propeller Shaft/ Service and Repair

Removing Transmission
Overview
Heat shield on all-wheel final drive
1. Remove heat shield on all-wheel final drive.
Right heat shield
2. Remove fastening screws -arrows- on heat shields on transmission and remove shield.
Stopper
3. Remove stopper -arrow- on bottom of converter bell housing.
Turning the crankshaft
Information:
^ The three converter screws can be positioned for removal in the oil pan opening by turning the crankshaft.
Converter screws
4. Remove the converter screw on the driver plate through the opening in the oil pan using special tool -3/8"-5/16" bit connector and Torx T55 bit screwdriver Insert NR.42-1-.

5. Remove front cardan shaft on the transfer gear and tie it up -Fig-.
Selector lever cable connection
6. Remove safety clip -A- on the selector lever cable and use universal removal tool -BNR.21- to lever the cable off the ball head -arrow-.
Coolant pipes on converter bell housing
7. Unscrew coolant pip fastening screws on converter bell housing.
Warning!
Hot fluid
^ Danger of scalding
- Let the fluid cool down.
- Wear personal protective gear.
Information:
^ The line connections on the transmission and the ends of the ATF lines must be closed off after the lines have been separated from the transmission!
ATF line on transmission
8. Disconnect ATF lines from the transmission. To do this, unscrew screw -arrow- and remove lines.
9. Unscrew fastening screw for ATF line holder on converter bell housing.

10. Unscrew fastening screws used to secure transmission to engine. This involves unscrewing four screws on the engine side and six on the transmission side.
Vent line to transmission
11. Remove transmission. Disconnect vent line -arrows- for the transfer gear while doing this.
Installing Transmision
Overview
Information:
^ Remove special tool -centering pin 9689- through the screwed opening in the oil pan.
Turning the crankshaft
^ The three converter screws can be positioned by turning the crankshaft.
^ Replace converter screws!
Information:
^ The adaptation values must be reset using the Porsche System Tester when the transmission is renewed/replaced. Code Tiptronic control unit.
Centering pin in converter
Information:
^ To position the converter to the screwed opening in the driver plate, insert special tool centering pin into -Arrows- converter and move transmission in.
Vent line to transmission
1. Run in transmission. Connect vent line -arrows- for the transfer gear and insert special tool -centering pin 9689- into the torque converter.
Fastening screws securing transmission to engine.
2. Screw in fastening screws for securing transmission to engine. This involves screwing in four screws on the engine side and six on the transmission side.
Tightening Torque:
-1- 80 Nm (58 ftlb.)
-2a- 80 Nm (59 ftlb.)
-2- 80 Nm (59 ftlb.)
-3- 45 Nm (33 ftlb.)
-4- 80 Nm (59 ftlb.)
-5- 80 Nm (59 ftlb.)
3. Install transfer gear, please refer to: Vehicle/ Transmission and Drivetrain/ Transfer Case/ Service and Repair
Cardan shaft to transfer gear
4. Connect front cardan shaft to transfer gear.
Initial tightening: 30 Nm (22 ftlb.)
Final tightening: 90 angular degrees
Screwing in converter screws
5. Screw in new converter screws through the opening in the oil pan using special tool -3/8"-5/16" bit connector and Torx T55 bit screwdriver insert NR.42-1-.
Tightening torque: 85 Nm (63 ftlb.)
Converter bell housing stopper
6. Insert stopper -arrows- at the bottom of the converter bell housing.
Cable connection to transmission
7. Attach safety clip -A- to the selector cable and press cable on to the ball head -arrow-.
8. Press selector lever cable connection on to ball head -arrow-.
Coolant pipes to converter bell housing
9. Screw in coolant pipe fastening screws on converter bell housing -arrows-.
Tightening torque: 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.)
ATF line to transmission
11. Attach ATF line holder to converter bell housing.
Tightening torque: 25 Nm (19 ftlb.)
11. Attach ATF line holder to converter bell housing.
Tightening Torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
12. Install starter, please refer to: Vehicle/ Startring and Charging/ Starting System/ Starter Motor/ Service and Repair
Heat shield to transmission
13. Screw in fastening screws -arrows- used to secure heat shields to transmission.
Tightening Torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
Heat shield on all-wheel final drive
14. Install heat shield on all-wheel final drive -arrows-.
Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
Inspection plug and oil drain plug
16. Screw in ATF inspection plug -A-.
Tightening torque: 70 Nm (52 ftlb.)
Subsequent Work:
Reworking for installing transmission
1. Fit engine guard, please refer to: Vehicle/ Body and Frame/ Exterior Moulding/ Trim/ Service and Repair
2. Install rear cardan shaft, please refer to: Vehicle/ Transmission and Drivetrain/ Drive/Propeller Shafts, Bearings and Joints/ Drive/Propeller Shaft Service and Repair
3. Connect battery, please refer to: Vehicle/ Starting and Charging/ Battery/ Service and Repair
4. Check and if necessary, top up the ATF.
