Preliminary Work:

Preliminary work for removing transmission

1. Remove engine, please refer to: Vehicle/ Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/ Engine/ Service and Repair
2. Remove the starter, please refer to: Vehicle/ Starting and Charging/ Starter System/ Starter Motor/ Service and Repair


Removing Transmission





Overview of removing/mounting transmission

Information:
^ The adaptation value must be reset using the Porsche System Tester when the transmission is renewed/replaced.

1. Disconnect Battery.

Information:
^ Unscrew converter screw connections while removing the engine.





Converter bell housing stopper
2. Remove stoppers -arrows- on bottom of converter bell housing.

Information:




^ The three converter screws can be positioned for removal in the oil pan opening by turning the crankshaft -Figure- with the special socket wrench insert -9714-.

3. Remove converter screw on the driver plate through the opening in the oil pan using special tool -bit connector 3/8"-5/16" and bit screwdriver insert Torx T55 NR.42.1-.

4. Remove engine.

5. Remove the starter.





Right transmission heat shield
6. Undo fastening screws -arrows- securing heat shield to transmission and remove shield.

Information:
^ The line connections on the transmission and the ends of the ATF lines should be closed off after the lines have been separated from the transmission!

Warning!
Danger of scalding and chemical burns from hot ATF

^ Allow ATF to cool down
^ Wear personal protective gear (goggles, gloves)





ATF line to transmission
7. Disconnect ATF lines from the transmission. To do this, unscrew -arrow- and remove lines.





Coolant pipes to converter bell housing
8. Unscrew coolant pipe fastening screws on converter bell housing.
Information:
^ Shift lever on the transmission is in position D. Move lever down fully.





Front cardan shaft to transfer gear
9. Unscrew cardan shaft bolts -arrows- to the transfer gear. Counter with special -counterer 3435- on triangular flange -A-.





Transfer gear ventilation
10. Press vent lines out of the retainers -arrows-.

11. Unscrew fastening screws for securing transmission to engine. This involves unscrewing four screws on the engine and six on the transmission side.





Transmission to workshop crane
12. Attach transmission with holder suspending device -2024A- on workshop crane





Transmission cross member
13. Raise transmission a few centimeters and notch transmission cross member B -B-.

14. Removing transmission.

Mounting Transmission





Overview of removing/mounting transmission

Information:




Centering pin in V6 converter
^ To position the converter to the screwed opening in the driver plate, insert special tool -centering pin 9689- into converter -arrow- and move transmission in.

Information:
^ Screws which are tightened with a torque angle must be replaced with new ones.
^ Shift lever on the transmission is in position D. Move lever down fully.

Information:
^ Remove special tool -centering pin 9689- through the screwed opening in the oil pan.





Turn V6 engine
^ The three converter screws can be positioned by turning the crankshaft -picture- using the special -socket wrench insert 9714-.
^ Replace converter screws!

Information:
^ The adaptation values must be reset using the Porsche System Tester when the transmission is renewed/replaced. Code Tiptronic control unit.

1. Mount transmission





Fastening screws for securing transmission to engine
2. Screw in fastening screws for securing transmission to engine. This involves screwing in four screws on the engine side and six on the transmission side.

Tightening Torque:
1 80 Nm (59 ftlb).
2a 80 Nm (59 ftlb).
2 80 Nm (59 ftlb).
3 45 Nm (33 ftlb).
4 80 Nm (59 ftlb).
5 80 Nm (59 ftlb).





Front cardan shaft to transfer gear
3. Screw in cardan shaft bolts -arrow- to the transfer gear. Counter with special brace -3435- on triangular flange -A-.
Initial Tightening: 30 Nm (22 ftlb)
Final Tightening: 90 angular degrees






Transfer gear vent line
4. Press vent line into the retainers -arrow-.





Coolant pipes to converter bell housing
5. Screw in coolant pipe fastening screws on converter bell housing.
Tightening torque: 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb).





Selector cable to transmission
6. Attach retaining clip -A- to the selector lever cable and press cable on to the ball head -arrow-.





ATF line to transmission
7. Install ATF lines from the transmission. To do this, connect the lines and screw in screw -arrows-.
Tightening torque: 25 Nm (19 ftlb).





Heat shield on right transmission
8. Screw in fastening screws -arrows- for securing heat shield to transmission.
Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb).

9. Install the starter.

10. Install engine with transmission.





Tightening converter screws
11. Screw in new converter screws through the opening in the oil pan using special tool -bit connector 3/8"-5/16" and Torx T55 bit screwdriver insert NR.42.-1..
Tightening torque: 85 Nm (63 ftlb).





Converter bell housing stopper
12. Insert stoppers -arrows- at the bottom of the converter bell housing.

13. Connect battery





ATF inspection plug/filler screw
14. Unscrew ATF inspection plug -A- and fill in ATF until a constant discharge is visible at the lifting tube.

15. Screw in ATF inspection plug.
Tightening torque: 70 Nm (52 ftlb).

Subsequent Work

Subsequent work for mounting

Information:
^ The adaptation values must be reset using the Porsche System Tester when the transmission is renewed/replaced.

1. Install engine, please refer to Vehicle/ Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/ Engine/ Service and Repair

2. Check and if necessary, top up the ATF.
