Preliminary work

1. Remove intake-air distributor. -> 244619 Removing and installing intake-air distributor - section on "Removing" Overhaul
2. Remove bar ignition modules. -> 282020 Removing and installing DFI bar ignition modules - section on "Removing" Service and Repair
3. Remove cylinder head cover.-> 158219 Removing and installing cylinder head cover on V6 DFI engines - section on "Removing" Overhaul
4. Remove the timing-case cover at the top.-> 153319 Removing and installing timing-case cover on V6 DFI engines - section on "Removing" Service and Repair

Removing solenoid/hydraulic valves for camshaft controllers

Information

- Have a mirror to hand for the following work.

- Press a lint-free cloth into the timing chain housing so that the fastening screws cannot fall into the timing chain housing.

- If a fastening screw falls into the timing chain housing, the engine must be removed and the lower timing-case cover must also be removed.

1. Unscrew the fastening screws -arrows- on the camshaft controllers using a socket wrench.

2. Carefully pull out the solenoid valves using special tool relay puller 9235.

CAUTION

Risk of damage due to:

- Scoring, scratches, dirt and impurities on the solenoid valve and timing chain housing.
- Bangs and impact on solenoid valves.

-> Coat sealing rings with clean engine oil.
-> Clean solenoid valve and timing chain housing.

CAUTION

Risk of damage to solenoid valves.

- Sealing ring can be damaged.
- Incorrect tightening torque.

-> Press in solenoid valve firmly with your hand.

1. Install solenoid valves.
1.1. Coat sealing ring with clean engine oil.
1.2. Carefully position solenoid valves vertically with respect to the valve axis and press them as far as they will go into the housing with your hand.
1.3. Tighten fastening screws -arrows- to => Tightening torque: 4 Nm (3 ftlb.).

Subsequent work

1. Install timing-case cover at the top. -> 153319 Removing and installing timing-case cover on V6 DFI engines - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
2. Install cylinder head cover. -> 158219 Removing and installing cylinder head cover on V6 DFI engines - section on "Installing" Overhaul
3. Install bar ignition module. -> 282020 Removing and installing DFI bar ignition modules - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
4. Install intake-air distributor. -> 244619 Removing and installing intake-air distributor on DFI engines - section on "Installing" Overhaul
