Preliminary work

Preliminary work for trailer hitch control unit

1. If a new control unit has to be installed, the values/coding must be read out using the 2nd generation PIWIS Tester 9818 prior to removing the "old" DME control unit. -> 669655 Replacing trailer hitch control unit 669655 Replacing trailer hitch control unit.
2. Detach part of the rear side trim panel at the right. -> 700319 Removing and installing side trim panel for rear luggage compartment Service and Repair

NOTICE

Voltage peaks

- Risk of damage to load or to the control unit

-> Remove the ignition key and switch off load before disconnecting or removing load.





Installation position

1. Unscrew both fastening nuts -1-.

2. Take the control unit out of the holder.
3. Release and unplug electric connectors -a-.

Installing trailer hitch control unit

1. Connect electric plug connections until the connectors engage securely.
2. Position control unit on the holder and secure with the fastening nuts -1-. => Tightening torque: 4.8 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)

Subsequent work for trailer hitch control unit

1. If the control unit was replaced, the "new" control unit must be adapted to the vehicle using the 2nd generation PIWIS Tester 9818. -> 669655 Replacing trailer hitch control unit 669655 Replacing trailer hitch control unit.
2. Secure the rear side trim panel at the right. -> 700319 Removing and installing side trim panel for rear luggage compartment Service and Repair
