Radiator Cooling Fan: Service and Repair

Preliminary work

1. Remove cover for front lock support. -> 703919 Removing and installing cover for front lock support - section on "Removing" 703919 Removing and installing cover for rear lock support
2. Remove air box for throttle housing (intake manifold). -> 243519 Removing and installing air box for throttle housing (intake manifold) - section on "Removing" Service and Repair

WARNING

Electrically moved components

- Danger of limbs being trapped or severed

-> Switch off electric power to drive motor.
-> Make sure it does not switch on again.
-> Check that there is no electric charge.

1. Unclip electric lines from the brackets.
2. Release and disconnect electric plug connection -6- for fan on the cooling fan housing -a-.

3. Release and disconnect electric plug connection -8- at the cooling water hose.

4. Release locking springs -9- at the left and right of the cooling fan housing.

5. Carefully press cooling water hose -10- to one side.

6. Pull cooling fan housing out of the brackets at the side and at the bottom and swivel it to the right slightly (in direction of travel) -arrow A-.

7. Carefully remove the cooling fan housing by pulling it up -arrow B-.

WARNING

Electrically moved components

-> Switch off electric power to drive motor.
-> Make sure it does not switch on again.
-> Check that there is no electric charge.

1. Carefully press the cooling water hose aside and slide the cooling fan housing carefully into the engine compartment along the radiator from top to bottom.
2. Check that the cooling fan housing is installed correctly. To do this, check that the locking springs on the left and right have engaged properly and that the three fastening lugs on the underside have engaged in the plastic clips.
3. Plug in electric plug connection -8- at the cooling water hose until it engages securely.

4. Plug in electric plug connection -6- for fan on the cooling fan housing and lock it -a-.

5. Clip electric lines into the brackets.

Subsequent work

1. Install air box for throttle housing (intake manifold). -> 243519 Removing and installing air box for throttle housing (intake manifold) - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
2. Install cover for front lock support. -> 703919 Removing and installing cover for front lock support - section on "Installing" 703919 Removing and installing cover for rear lock support
