Preliminary work

1. If a Lane Change Assist control unit has to be replaced, the data must be read out prior to removal using PIWIS Tester II 9818. -> 914355 Replacing reversing camera 914355 Replacing reversing camera

Remove rear apron. -> 635519 Removing and installing rear apron - section on "Removing" .

Removing control unit for Lane Change Assist

Information

For trouble-free operation, Lane Change Assist must be calibrated after the following work is carried out on the vehicle:

- When one or both Lane Change Assist control units are replaced.

- When the installation position of one or both Lane Change Assist control units is changed.

- When body repairs are carried out on the rear of the vehicle.

- When the rear bumper is removed or moved out of position.

Information

Lane Change Assist has two control units:

- The master control unit on the left and

- the slave control unit on the right.

1. Switch off ignition and remove the handheld transmitter from the ignition lock.
2. Unscrew the three fastening screws -1-.

3. Open the two retaining clips for the electric connector -a- and pull the connector off the control unit.

1. Plug in electric connector on the control unit -A- until it engages securely.

2. Position the control unit on the holder -B- and secure it with the three fastening screws -1-. => Tightening torque: 4 Nm (3 ftlb.)

Subsequent work

1. Install rear apron. -> 635519 Removing and installing rear apron - section on "Installing" .
2. If a Lane Change Assist control unit was replaced, the data must be written back into the control unit again using PIWIS Tester II 9818. -> 914355 Replacing reversing camera 914355 Replacing reversing camera.
3. The Lane Change Assist control unit must be calibrated whenever the rear apron is removed/fitted. -> 9170K2 Calibrating control unit for Lane Change Assist Testing and Inspection
