Preliminary work for rear axle housing
1. On vehicles with levelling system: Switch off levelling system. -> 4X00IN Lifting the vehicle Service and Repair

WARNING
Moving components
- Danger of limbs being trapped or severed
-> Do not reach into the danger area.
-> Secure the system to prevent it from being activated accidentally.
-> Keep third parties away from the danger area.
Information
When working on the exhaust system, rear axle and vibration dampers, position the mounting frame correctly on the lifting platform and carefully remove the rear axle housing. Watch out for falling parts when removing and installing components on the mounting frame.
1. Mark the position of the cardan shaft with respect to the rear final drive.

2. Press the cardan shaft off the rear final drive pin using a mounting lever -A-.

3. Loosen centre bearing holder -1- and tie up the cardan shaft in the cardan tunnel.

4. For installation, it is a good idea to mark the installation position of the rear axle housing diagonally on at least two places on the body. To do this, place the marks vertically with respect to the floor of the body using a => Marking axle carrier (example) felt-tip pen (e.g. mark along the rear axle housing mount with the pen).

5. Loosen the brake caliper at the wheel carrier and tie it up in the wheel housing with a tie-wrap.
6. Disengage and disconnect wire harness for wheel carrier at the body in the wheel housing -1-.

7. Disconnect cable plug -3- on level sensor.

Information
- Spring strut screws are under tension. Use a suitable lift with rubber base.

8. Remove spring strut at the wheel carrier. Let connecting rod hang to the side.
9. Position the mounting frame correctly on the lifting platform => Lifting platform.

10. Guide it into the take-up points provided for this purpose -arrows-. The -arrows- show the take-up points for the mounting frame in the rear axle housing.

11. Unscrew four fastening screws -arrows- and lower the chassis subframe. Check that all components have sufficient clearance.

2. Position the rear axle housing back in its original, marked installation position and tighten it.

3. Replace circlip at the input flange of the rear final drive.

4. Position the cardan shaft at the marking on the rear final drive.
