Removing drive mechanism for roof assembly (panorama roof)
Information
Some of the repair illustrations show only one side of the vehicle. Naturally, some steps also have to be performed on the opposite side of the vehicle as well. These must be carried out as a mirror image of the steps shown.
1. Measure the distance of the rails (dimension -X- ) using the telescopic measuring rod Nr.126 Pos.1 between the two bores -1- in front of the rear end and write it down.
Alternatively, the roof assembly can be positioned and secured like the Targa roof on the retaining frame 9695 using the holder 9695/1 on the => WE1082 transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A. Proceed as described here: -> 600613 Mounting roof assembly on assembly fixture 600619 Removing and installing roof assembly (panorama roof) or 6006AN Teaching roof systems
Measuring parallel setting
2. Remove the rear end -1- from the frame -3-.
Removing rear end
2.1. Disconnect wire harness from the rear end.
2.2. Unscrew screws -2-.
2.3. Cut the sealing cord -5- between the guide rails -3- and rear end -1- with a knife.
2.4. Pull the complete rear end -1- with the operating cables and sun blind sliders -4- off the frame -3- towards the rear -arrow-.
3. Pull the drive mechanism for the front panel -1- together with the operating cables and drivers -3- towards the rear and out of the guide rails.

Information
Some of the repair illustrations show only one side of the vehicle. Naturally, some steps also have to be performed on the opposite side of the vehicle as well. These must be carried out as a mirror image of the steps shown.
1. Grease sliding areas again.
The guide rails -2- must only be cleaned if they are very dirty.
Greasing sliding areas
1.1. Clean the guide rails.
1.2. Then grease the sliding areas -3- of the guide rails with a light coating of => GREASE using a paint brush.
- The inner seal -1- and outer seal -4- have an anti-friction coating and must not be greased.
- The operating cables and motor plates must not be greased.
2. Slide the drive mechanism -1- together with the operating cables and drivers -3- into the guide rails.
Make sure that the operating cables are not kinked.
The operating cables and powered sunroof mechanism may only be replaced in pairs. => SET => SET
Installing powered sunroof mechanism
3. Fit the rear end -1- on the frame -3-.
Fitting rear end
3.1. Remove any adhesive residue on the guide rails using the film eraser Nr.174 Pos.1.
3.2. Clean the bonding area -5- of the rear end -1- and guide rails -3- thoroughly.
3.3. Insert sealing cord => SEALING CORD -6- into the bonding channel -5- on the rear end -1-.
Fitting sealing cord
3.4. Guide the rear end -1- with the operating cables and sun blind sliders -4- into the guide rails -3- and slide it into position.
Make sure that the operating cables are not kinked.
3.5. Screw in fastening screws -2- shortly before final fitting.
3.6. Adjust the distance of the rails (dimension -X- , which you wrote down earlier) using the telescopic measuring rod Nr.126 Pos.1 between the two bores -1- in front of the rear end so that the guide rails are parallel.
Measuring parallel setting
3.7. Tighten fastening screws -2- to => Tightening torque: 2 Nm (1.5 ftlb.).
4. Set the same position and parallel setting for the powered sunroof mechanism on both sides based on the marking on the frame and the rib on the drive mechanism -line-.
Setting position of powered sunroof mechanism
5. Check the frame for leaks before assembling other components.
5.1. Seal the water drain connection piece with sealing cord.
5.2. Fill the rear end and frame area with water.
5.3. Wait at least 5 minutes and then check for leaks.
5.4. Seal any leaks with sealing cord => SEALING CORD.
