Technical values
Preliminary work

Removing radiator
Information
A second person is required for removing and installing the radiator.
Do not open the air conditioner if at all possible when removing the radiator module. Do not bend the lines

- The retaining clips should be mounted again immediately so that they are not confused.
1. Remove the coolant hose -1- on the radiator. To do this, pull out the safety clip on the coolant connection piece and remove the hose. Then fit the safety clips again so that they do not get mixed up.

2. Loosen the spring band clamp and pull off the breather hose -2- at the top right of the radiator.

3. Unscrew the fastening screw -3- securing the line holder to the ATF cooler (right in direction of travel) and the fastening screw -4- securing the line holder to the condenser (left in direction of travel).

4. Unscrew the fastening screw -5- used to secure the line holder for the power-steering cooler. Pull the holder out and remove it.

5. Unscrew fastening screws -6 and 7 -. Only loosen the fastening screw -8-.
6. Remove both holders -arrows- at the left and right of the radiator. To do this, unclip the clips up out of the holders and remove the holders.

7. Lift up the two metal clips -arrows - and push them down at the sides.

8. Turn the holders -arrows- at the left and right sides and pull them out of the rubber sleeve.

9. Loosen the securing frame from the radiator (press the frame forward and pull the radiator down) and secure it on the body to prevent it from falling down.
10. Unclip the power-steering cooler. To do this, unclip the lines to the front out of the holder -A- and push them to the left out of the holder -B-. Secure the cooler at a suitable position to prevent it from falling down.

11. Lift up the radiator and take it carefully out of the vehicle by moving it up. Be careful of all connecting lines when doing this.

Do not open the air conditioner if at all possible when removing the radiator module. Do not bend the lines

1. Carefully slide in the radiator from above.

2. Press the securing frame and radiator together.
3. Slide on the metal clips -arrows- used to secure the securing frame to the radiator.

4. Secure the power-steering cooler. To do this, push the power-steering cooler from left to right into the holder -A- and clip the lines into the holder -B-.

5. Slide the holders into the rubber sleeve for the cooler at the left and right sides -arrows -.

6. Install both holders -arrows- at the left and right of the cooler. To do this, push the clips into the holders from above and clip them in.

7. Tighten fastening screws -6- used to secure the lock carrier to the holder to => Tightening torque: 5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.).
8. Tighten fastening screws -7 and 8 - used to secure the bumper to the holder to => Tightening torque: 25 Nm (19 ftlb.).
9. Position the holder and tighten the fastening screw -5- used to secure the holder for the power-steering cooler lines.

10. Tighten the fastening screw -3- securing the line holder to the ATF cooler (right in direction of travel) and the fastening screw -4- securing the line holder to the condenser (left in direction of travel).

11. Slide breather hose -2- onto the right side of the radiator and fit the spring-band clamp.

12. Slide on the coolant hose -1- and then slide on the safety clip for the connection piece. The safety clip must lock with an audible click.

Subsequent work
1. Turbo engine: Install radiator frame. -> 19201903 Removing and installing cooling fan housing (radiator frame) - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
2. Naturally aspirated engine: Install radiator frame. -> 19201901 Removing and installing cooling fan housing (radiator frame) - section on "Installing" Service and Repair

4. Fill and bleed the cooling system. -> 193817 Draining and topping up with coolant (includes bleeding) - section on "Topping up" Service and Repair
5. Connect the battery. -> 90 Work instructions after disconnecting the battery
