Preliminary work

1. Remove drive plate for converter. -> 136319 Removing and installing drive plate for torque converter Service and Repair

1. Use the drift punch, 1-mm tip Nr.167 to drive a small hole at a non-rubberised spot (rectangular window in the ring) on the sealing ring. => Drift punch

2. Screw in the extractor tip. Use the slide hammer kit Nr.168 to knock out the extractor tip together with the sealing ring. Alternatively, you can screw in a suitable tapping screw and pull out the sealing ring using a pliers. => Knocking out sealing ring

3. Clean the crankshaft flange. The crankshaft flange must not be dirty or rusty. Clean it with brake cleaner and sand off any rust with a metal-polishing pad (e.g. Never Dull) if necessary. => Cleaning the crankshaft flange

Information

Sealing rings become damaged as a result of improper fitting. Do not oil sealing rings on the running surface and do not pull sealing rings off the plastic sleeve.

1. Fit the sealing ring and sleeve on the tool spacer 9609/2. => Pushing on sealing ring

2. Position the centring tool spacer 9609/2 on the crankshaft flange. Pay attention to the centring pin when doing this. Then tighten the two fastening screws to 23 Nm (17 ftlb.). => centering tool

3. Position the retracting bell pressure piece 9609/1 and tighten the central screw (a/f 19) to 25 Nm (19 ftlb.). => Retracting bell

4. Loosen the retracting bell and screw it down.
5. Loosen the two fastening screws on the centring device and remove the tool. Remove sleeve from the tool.

Subsequent work

1. Fit drive plate for converter. -> 136319 Removing and installing drive plate for torque converter Service and Repair
