Preliminary work

With engine installed =>
1. Remove high-pressure pump on cylinder bank 5 to 8. -> 246319 Removing and installing high-pressure pump 246319 Removing and installing high-pressure pump
2. Pull off cable plug on solenoid valve for valve lift switchover.
3. Remove vacuum pump on cylinder bank 1 to 4. -> 477619 Removing and installing vacuum pump Service and Repair
4. Pull off cable plug on solenoid valve for valve lift switchover.

If cylinder head is replaced =>
5. Remove screw plug with sealing ring. -1-

Removing secondary air valve

1. Disconnect secondary-air hoses and pipe.

2. Detach secondary air valve connections.
3. Remove screw -2- and carefully pull the secondary air valve -1 or 3- out of the cylinder head.

Installing secondary air valve

1. Fit secondary air valve with a new, lightly greased sealing ring into the cylinder head.

2. Fit secondary air valve with an M6 screw. => Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.) Fit secondary air valve connections.
3. Fit secondary-air hoses.

Subsequent work

With engine installed =>
1. Fit cable plug on solenoid valve for valve lift switchover.
2. Fit high-pressure pump on cylinder bank 5 to 8. -> 246319 Removing and installing high-pressure pump 246319 Removing and installing high-pressure pump
3. Attach cable plug on solenoid valve for valve lift switchover on cylinder bank 1 to 4.
4. Fit vacuum pump. -> 477619 Removing and installing vacuum pump Service and Repair
