Status message

Note! To obtain the correct status message:

- Ignition on.
- Accelerator pedal (AP) up.
- Wait approx. 10 seconds.
- Floor the accelerator pedal (AP), keep it fully depressed in kickdown position.
- Wait approx. 10 seconds.
Read off diagnostic trouble code (DTC).

Is the status PERMANENT FAULT displayed?

Yes - Checking kickdown switch (KD) function

No - Intermittent fault

-------------------------------------------------

Checking kickdown switch (KD) function

- Ignition on.
- Go into scrolling values.
- Read off kickdown switch (KD) position.
The reading should only be ON if the accelerator pedal (AP) is depressed to kickdown position. For other accelerator pedal (AP) positions the reading should be OFF.

Is the correct reading displayed?

Yes - Connecting the breakout box

No - Checking the kickdown switch (KD)

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the kickdown switch (KD)
When the accelerator pedal AP is fully depressed a circuit is made as the sheath on the throttle cable is pressed into the kickdown switch. Releasing the accelerator pedal (AP) allows the cable sheath to spring back and the switch breaks the circuit.

Note! The kickdown switch is operated only when the accelerator pedal (AP) is fully depressed.

Check that the cable sheath is pressed in and springs back when the accelerator pedal (AP) is operated.

Are kickdown switch and cable operation OK?

Yes - Checking kickdown switch (KD) resistance

No - Fault-tracing information

-------------------------------------------------

Fault-tracing information
Repair as necessary.

Select "Continue" when the fault has been repaired.

-------------------------------------------------

Checking kickdown switch (KD) resistance

- Ignition off.
- Disconnect the kickdown switch (KD).
Connect an ohmmeter between kickdown switch (KD) terminals 1 and 2.
Fully depress the accelerator pedal (AP).
The ohmmeter should read approx 0 ohms with the accelerator pedal (AP) fully depressed and infinite resistance in all other positions.

Is the correct reading displayed?

Yes - Checking for a short-circuit

No - Replacing component

-------------------------------------------------

Checking for a short-circuit
Check cable between kickdown switch terminal 2 and control module #B30 for a short-circuit to ground according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.

Select "Continue" when the fault has been repaired.

Continue - Verification

-------------------------------------------------

Replacing component

- Ignition off.
Try a new kickdown switch (KD) according to Kick-down switch/throttle cable, replacing Service and Repair.

Select "Continue" when the fault has been repaired.
