Checking disengagement cause (Continued)

Checking control module connector








- Ignition off.
- Check control module connector terminal 3T for contact resistance and oxidation and remedy according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault and loose connections according to Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.
- Connect control module.
- Ignition on.








- Activate Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) 2.
- ON/OFF selector switch to the ON position.
- Move gear shift from D to N or from N to D.
- Check whether response code 2-2-3 is returned.

Response code 2-2-3 returned?

Yes - Fault-tracing information

No - Replacing component

- Ignition off.
- The response code was not returned because of loose connections in the control module connector.

Continue - FAULT FOUND

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied as follows:












- Ignition off.
- Reconnect connectors, reinstall components.
- Engine control module (ECM) connected.
- Selector switch ON.
- Ignition on.




- Move gear shift from D to N or from N to D.
- Activate Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) 2.
- ON/OFF selector switch to the ON position.
- Move gear shift from D to N or from N to D.
- Check whether response code 2-2-3 is returned.

Connection of Volvo Scan Tool (ST)

Connection of Volvo ST




- Ignition off.
- Insert blue memory cassette into Volvo ST.
- Connect adapter 951 1457-5 to cable 951 1458-3.
- Connect VIDA communication lead between the adapter and the VIDA PC.

Is the data link connector (DLC) located in passenger compartment?

Yes - Connection to DLC

No - Connection to DLC

- Connect Volvo ST cable (p/n 951 1458-3) to the adapter (p/n 951 1459-1) for use in the engine compartment.
- Connect the adapter to DLC A or B, see DLC DLC.
- Connect the adapter supply lead to battery.
- Switch on Volvo ST.

- Activate Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) 2.
- ON/OFF selector switch to the ON position
- Depress brake pedal.
- Check that the brake valve is OK by checking that response code 1-1-3 is returned.

- 1. Yes, response code 1-1-3 is returned (manual transmission)
- 2. Yes, response code 1-1-3 is returned (automatic transmission)
- 3. No, response code 1-1-3 is not returned
- 4. No, response code 3-1-1 is returned instead

- Ignition off.
- Brake valve disconnected.
- Connect selector switch.
- Selector switch in OFF position.








- Connect an ohmmeter between both brake valve connecting pins.

The ohmmeter should read approx. 0 ohms with the brake pedal up and infinite resistance with the pedal depressed more than 8 mm.

OK - Checking for a short-circuit

Clutch valve adjustment








- Ignition off.
- Clutch valve disconnected.
- Press pedal so that it is not in contact with the valve.
- Pull piston out as far as possible and release pedal slowly.








- Connect an ohmmeter between both clutch valve terminal pins.

The ohmmeter should read approx. 0 ohms with the clutch pedal up and infinite resistance with the pedal depressed more than 8 mm.

OK - Verification

Not OK - Replacing component

- Check the cable between fuse 11/28 and selector switch connector terminal 2 for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.

- Ignition on.
- Disconnect brake valve.
Connect a voltmeter between selector switch connector terminal 1 and ground.
Voltmeter should read battery voltage with the selector switch in the ON position and approx. 0 V with the selector switch in the OFF position.
- 1. these values are OK.
- 2. Voltmeter reads a steady battery voltage.
- 3. Voltmeter reads a steady 0 V.
