Thermostat: Service and Repair




Coolant Thermostat, Removing and Installing

Notes:
- Always replace seals and gaskets.
- Cover toothed bolt with a cloth to protect it from coolant before removing thermostat.

Removing
- Drain coolant. Refer to: "Engine, Cooling and Exhaust : Cooling System : Service and Repair" Service and Repair

- Remove bumper. Refer to: "Body and Frame : Bumper : Service and Repair" Service and Repair

- Move lock carrier to service position Refer to: "Body and Frame : Radiator Support : Service and Repair : Lock Carrier, Service Position" Lock Carrier Service Position

- Remove ribbed belt. Refer to:"Engine, Cooling and Exhaust : Engine : Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories : Drive Belt : Service and Repair" Service and Repair

- Remove toothed belt. Refer to. "Engine, Cooling and Exhaust : Engine : Timing Components : Timing Belt : Service and Repair" Service and Repair





- Unscrew securing bolts -1- of connection for thermostat and remove connection -2-.
- Take out thermostat -4-.

Installing

Install in the opposite order to removing. When installing, note the points:
- Lubricate new O-ring -3- with coolant.
- Fit thermostat -4- into engine block.





- Make sure that thermostat bleeder valve -arrow- is on top.
- Install connection for thermostat and tighten bolts.
Tightening torque: 10 Nm
- Install toothed belt Service and Repair
- Install ribbed belt Service and Repair
- Fill cooling system Cooling System, Draining and Refilling
