P1343
3UR-FE ENGINE CONTROL: SFI SYSTEM: P1340,P1342,P1343: Camshaft Position Sensor "A" (Bank 1 Sensor 2)
P1343 - Camshaft Position Sensor "A" High Input (MRE)
DESCRIPTION
The camshaft position sensor (G signal) consists of a magnet and MRE (Magnetic Resistance Element).
The camshaft drive gear (LH) has 3 teeth on its inner circumference. When the camshaft gear rotates, air gap changes between the protrusion on the teeth and the MRE. The change affects the magnetic field and results in changes in the resistance of the MRE.
The crankshaft position sensor plate has 34 teeth and is installed to the rear end of the crankshaft. The crankshaft position sensor generates 34 signals with every crankshaft revolution. The ECM detects the standard crankshaft angle based on the G signal, and the actual crankshaft angle and engine speed by the NE signal.

COMPONENT OPERATING RANGE
CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN
1. Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
2. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on.
3. Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC operation).
4. Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
5. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on [A].
6. Start the engine.
7. Idle the engine for 10 seconds or more [B].
8. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes [C].
9. Read the Pending DTCs.
HINT
- If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
- If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
10. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All Readiness.
11. Input the DTC: P1340, P1342 or P1343.
12. Check the DTC judgment result.
HINT
- If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.
- If the judgment result shows INCOMPLETE or UNKNOWN, perform steps [B] and [C] again.
13. If the no pending DTC is output, perform a universal trip and check for permanent DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
HINT
- If a permanent DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
- If no permanent DTC is output, the system is normal.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
HINT
Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. Freeze frame data records the engine conditions when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was running or stopped, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
PROCEDURE
1. INSPECT CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (SENSOR POWER SOURCE)
(a) Disconnect the C2 camshaft position sensor connector.
(b) Turn the engine switch on (IG).
(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage:
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR)
(a) Disconnect the C2 camshaft position sensor connector.
(b) Disconnect the C53 ECM connector.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
3. INSPECT SENSOR INSTALLATION
(a) Check the camshaft position sensor installation.
OK:
The camshaft position sensor is installed properly.
NG -- SECURELY REINSTALL SENSOR Installation
OK -- Continue to next step.
4. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING PLATE (SIGNAL PLATE TOOTH)
(a) Check the teeth of the signal plate.
OK:
Sensor plate teeth do not have any cracks or deformation.
NG -- REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING PLATE
OK -- Continue to next step.
5. REPLACE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR
(a) Replace the camshaft position sensor Removal.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
6. CONFIRM WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the engine switch on (IG).
(c) Turn the Techstream on.
(d) Clear DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
(e) Start the engine.
(f) Refer to the confirmation driving pattern.
(g) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
(h) Read DTCs.
Result
HINT
If the engine does not start, replace the ECM.
B -- REPLACE ECM Removal
A -- END
