Oil Pump: Service and Repair



Oil Pump, Screen, and Crankshaft Oil Deflector Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the engine oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement (Oil Pan Replacement) .
2. Remove the engine front cover. Refer to Engine Front Cover Replacement (Service and Repair) .




3. Remove the oil pump screen and tube assembly to oil pump retaining bolt (1).
4. Remove the oil pump screen and tube assembly to crankshaft oil deflector retaining nut (4).
5. Remove the oil pump screen and tube assembly (3) from the oil pump (2).





Important: The oil pump screen and tube assembly O-ring seal (1) is a single use only component and must be replaced whenever the oil pump screen and tube assembly (2) is removed.


6. Remove the oil pump screen and tube assembly O-ring seal (1) from the oil pump screen and tube assembly (2).
Discard the oil pump screen and tube assembly O-ring seal (1).




7. Remove the remaining crankshaft oil deflector retaining nuts (2).
8. Remove the crankshaft oil deflector (1).




9. Remove the oil pump bolts (1).
Important: Do not allow dirt or debris to enter the oil pump, cap the ends as necessary.



10. Remove the oil pump (2).
11. Clean and inspect the oil pump. Refer to Oil Pump Cleaning and Inspection (Overhaul) .



Installation Procedure


Important: Inspect the engine block oil gallery passages. These surfaces must be clear and free of debris or restrictions.






1. Align the splined surfaces of the crankshaft sprocket and the oil pump drive gear and install the oil pump (1).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .

2. Install the oil pump to engine block retaining bolts (2).

Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).





3. Install the crankshaft oil deflector (1).
4. Install the crankshaft oil deflector retaining nuts (2).

Tighten the nuts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).





5. Lubricate a NEW oil pump screen and tube assembly O-ring seal (1) with clean engine oil.
6. Install the NEW oil pump screen and tube assembly O-ring seal (1) onto the oil pump screen and tube assembly (2).

Important: Push the oil pump screen and tube assembly (3) completely into the oil pump (2) prior to tightening the oil pump screen and tube assembly to oil pump retaining bolt (1). Do not allow the oil pump screen and tube assembly to oil pump retaining bolt (1) to pull the oil pump screen and tube assembly (3) into the oil pump (2).



Important: Align the oil pump screen brackets with the correct crankshaft bearing cap studs.


7. Install the oil pump screen and tube assembly (3).
8. Install the oil pump screen and tube assembly to oil pump retaining bolt (1).

Tighten the bolt to 12 N.m (106 lb in).

9. Install the oil pump screen and tube assembly to crankshaft oil deflector retaining nut (4).

Tighten the nut to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

10. Install the engine front cover. Refer to Engine Front Cover Replacement (Service and Repair) .
11. Install the engine oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement (Oil Pan Replacement) .
