Ignition Coil: Service and Repair



Ignition Coil Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution (Battery Disconnect Caution) .
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair) .
2. Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Service and Repair) .




3. Disconnect the spark plug wires (1) from the ignition coils.




4. Disconnect the main ignition coil harness connector (1) from the ignition coil assembly.
5. Remove the ignition coil assembly to rocker cover retaining bolts (2).




6. Remove the ignition coil assembly from the engine
7. Disconnect the ignition coil to ignition coil wiring harness connectors (1)




8. Remove the ignition coil to ignition coil assembly retaining bolts (1)
9. Remove the ignition coils from the ignition coil assembly.



Installation Procedure





1. Install the ignition coil assembly.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .

2. Install the ignition coil to ignition coil assembly retaining bolts (1).

Tighten the bolts to 12 N.m (106 lb in).





3. Connect the ignition coil to ignition coil wiring harness connectors (1).
4. Install the ignition coil assembly to the engine.




5. Install the ignition coil assembly to rocker cover retaining bolts (2)

Tighten the bolts to 12 N.m (106 lb in).

6. Connect the main ignition coil harness connector (1) to the ignition coil assembly.




7. Connect the spark plug wires (1) to the ignition coils.
8. Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Service and Repair) .
9. Connect the battery ground cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair) .
