Engine Oil Filler / Breather Cap: Service and Repair

Technical values





Preliminary work

1. Disconnect negative terminal of the battery.
2. Remove engine compartment lid.

CAUTION

Hot components

- Risk of burns

-> Let hot components cool down.
-> Wear personal protective gear.

3. Remove resonance tube.

4. Detach B+ line at the starter.
-> 276019 Removing and installing starter .

Removing oil filler neck

1. Loosen the spring band clamp -1- on the connecting hose to the service tray.
1.1. Place cleaning cloths underneath to catch any residual oil as required.
1.2. Pull hose -2- off the oil filler neck.

2. Unclip plastic holder -2- on the oil filler neck -1-.

3. Loosen oil filler neck mounting on the crankcase.
3.1. Release and pull off positive crankcase ventilation line -1- at the adapter -2-.
3.2. Check O-ring and replace if necessary.
4. Unscrew two external Torx screws (E10, M6 x 20) -3-.

5. Unscrew external Torx screw (E10, M6 x 16) -2- used to secure the cable duct to the intake-air distributor for cylinder bank 1-3.
5.1. Pull the cable duct -1- carefully to the rear.

6. Unscrew external Torx screw (E10, M6 x 12) -1- used to secure the oil filler neck holder -2- under the intake-air distributor for cylinder bank 1-3.

6.1. Tool recommendation for difficult-to-reach joint:1/4-inch change-over ratchet -1- with short extension and socket-wrench insert (E10) -2-.

7. Open the holder for air-conditioning lines at the intake-air distributor for cylinder bank 1-3.
7.1. The metal holder remains on the intake-air distributor for cylinder bank 1-3 and must not be removed.
7.2. Unscrew fastening nut -1-.
7.3. Open the holder -2- and remove the rubber sleeve -3-.





Loosening holder for refrigerant lines

Information

Cover engine openings (intake openings, crankcase, oil lines, open reservoirs) with a cloth or adhesive tape to prevent dirt and foreign bodies from falling into the openings.

8. Press the refrigerant lines forward slightly and remove the oil filler neck by lifting it upwards.
8.1. Cover or mask the opening on the crankcase.
9. Replace O-ring on oil filler neck.
10. Clean connection points and sealing surfaces.

Installing oil filler neck

1. Remove cover from crankcase opening.
1.1. Grease new O-ring on the oil filler neck lightly with Kluber Syntheso Glep.
2. Press the refrigerant line forward slightly and guide the oil filler neck into position from above.
2.1. Fit oil filler neck on the crankcase and position in at the holder.
3. Pull the cable duct carefully to the rear.
4. Fit external Torx screw (E10, M6 x 12) -1- on the oil filler neck holder.

4.1. Tighten screw using 1/4-inch change-over ratchet -2- with short extension and socket-wrench insert (E10) -1-.





Tools

=> Tightening torque: 13 Nm (9.5 ftlb.)
5. Secure oil filler neck on the crankcase.
5.1. Fit and tighten two external Torx screws (E10, M6 x 20) -3-.
=> Tightening torque: 13 Nm (9.5 ftlb.)
5.2. Fit positive crankcase ventilation line -1- at the adapter -2-.

6. Unclip plastic holder -2- on the oil filler neck -1-.

7. Fit connecting hose -2- to service tray.
7.1. Position and close spring band clamp -1-.

8. Position cable duct -1- on intake-air distributor for cylinder bank 1-3.
8.1. Fit and tighten external Torx screw (E10, M6 x 16) -2-.
=> Tightening torque: 13 Nm (9.5 ftlb.)

9. Fit holder for air-conditioning line at the intake-air distributor for cylinder bank 1-3.
9.1. Fit rubber sleeve -3- , close the holder -2- and tighten fastening nut -1- by hand.

Subsequent work

1. Connect B+ line at the starter.

2. Install resonance tube.

3. Install engine compartment lid.

4. Connect negative terminal of the battery.
