Oil Pan: Service and Repair

Preliminary work

1. Remove engine guard. -> 108019 Removing and installing engine guard - section on "Removing" 108019 Removing and installing engine guard

2. Support the engine on the body. -> 10 Supporting engine on the body

Information

- Collect oil in a clean container so that it can be re-used.

5. Loosen oil drain plug -arrow- and collect engine oil in a container.
Dispose of waste oil in accordance with legal requirements.

6. Replace oil drain plug -arrow-. => Tightening torque: 30 Nm (22 ftlb.)

Removing oil pan

-> Let the fluid cool down.
-> Wear personal protective gear.

Highly inflammable or explosive materials

- Danger of fire or explosion

-> Avoid contact with hot parts or sources of ignition.
-> Use suction to remove ignitable vapours.
-> Attach warning sign in a clearly visible position.

1. Release connector on oil level sensor -a- and pull it off -arrow-.

2. Loosen fastening screws on oil pan in reverse numerical order (25. 1).

3. Remove the oil pan.
Loosen the oil pan by tapping it lightly with a rubber hammer if necessary.
4. Remove sealant from the crankcase with a plastic wedge.

5. Clean the oil pan thoroughly.
Use a special plastic brush for drills if necessary.

Installing oil pan

1. Apply a bead of sealant sealant 000.043.300.39 to the oil pan.
Sealing surfaces must be clean and free of grease.

NOTICE

Oil pump suction line blocked

- Risk of engine damage

-> The bead of sealing compound must not be thicker than => Diameter: 3 mm.

Guide the bead of sealant past the inside of the screw holes -arrows-.

2. Fit oil pan on the crankcase and tighten fastening screws in numerical order (1. 25). => Tightening torque: 12 Nm (9 ftlb.)

Information

- After fitting the oil pan, the sealant must be allowed to dry for approx. 30 minutes.

- Then fill in engine oil.

3. Fill in engine oil of the stipulated viscosity and quality and check the oil level.-> 170117 Changing engine oil and oil filter - section on "Checking" Removal and Replacement

1. Install engine carrier. -> 103019 Removing and installing engine carrier - section on "Installing" 103019 Removing and installing engine carrier
2. Install the front-axle carrier. -> 400619 Removing and installing front axle carrier 400619 Removing and installing front-axle carrier
3. Remove engine safety device. -> 10 Supporting engine on the body
4. Install engine guard. -> 108019 Removing and installing engine guard - section on "Installing" 108019 Removing and installing engine guard
