Preliminary work

Removing catalytic converter

Disregard 1 and 2, as well as the down arrows!

1. Unscrew top screw -arrow- on the exhaust manifold heat shield and remove the heat shield.

2. Release and unplug all oxygen sensor connectors. Disconnect and expose the oxygen sensors lines.
3. Screw off the nuts -arrows- on the threaded joint securing the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold.

4. Unscrew fastening screws -arrows- for the catalytic converter on bank 1.

5. Screw off suspension -1- and -2-. Loosen clamps -arrows-.

6. Support the transmission using engine and gearbox jack V.A.G 1383 A WE 1082.
7. Unscrew screws -1- and -2- for the transmission support.

8. Unscrew screws -arrows- and remove transmission support.

10. Unscrew fastening screw -arrow- for the catalytic converter on bank 2.

11. Remove catalytic converters:
11.1. Remove catalytic converter for bank 2 (top) in a downward direction.
11.2. Remove catalytic converter for bank 1.

Installing catalytic converter

1. Installation is performed in reverse order. Pay particular attention to the following:
1.1. Replace seals and self-locking nuts.
1.2. Attach all tie-wraps at the same places during installation.

Subsequent work
