Preliminary work
1. If a new control unit has to be installed, the values and coding must be read out using the 2nd generation PIWIS Tester 9818 prior to removing the "old" control unit for rear lid. -> 556855 Replacing control unit for rear lid 556855 Replacing Control Unit for Rear Lid.
2. Remove lower part of rear trim panel. -> 709219 Removing and installing trim panel for tailgate - section on "Removing" Service and Repair

NOTICE
Voltage peaks
- Risk of damage to load or to the control unit
-> Switch off ignition and remove remote control before disconnecting or removing load.
Information
Always comply with the regulations for handling ESD-sensitive components!
- Assembly work must only be carried out if the mechanic is wearing the working clothes and shoes approved by Porsche.
- The new part must only be removed from the ESD (electrostatic discharge) protective packaging just before installation and at the position at which the part is to be installed.
- Never touch the electric pins and plug contacts.
1. Release electric plug connection -1 and 2- from control unit for rear lid and pull it off -A-.

2. Release electric plug connection -3- ( -a- ) and turn release element -4- 90° anti-clockwise -B-. Pull electric plug connection off control unit for rear lid.
3. Release the two clips -1- ( -A- ) and remove control unit for rear lid by swivelling it -B- out of the opening in the holder -C-.

1. Insert control unit for rear lid with the lower edge into the opening in the holder -A- and swivel it in -B- until the two clips -1- engage securely.

2. Fit electric plug connection -3- on control unit for rear lid and turn release element -4- 90° clockwise until it engages securely.

3. Plug in electric plug connections -1 and 2- on control unit for rear lid until they engage securely.
Subsequent work
1. If the control unit was replaced, the control unit must be adapted to the vehicle using the 2nd generation PIWIS Tester 9818. -> 556855 Replacing control unit for rear lid 556855 Replacing Control Unit for Rear Lid.
2. Install lower part of rear trim panel. -> 709219 Removing and installing trim panel for tailgate - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
