DTC 1-3-3
EG. Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) 1-3-3 MFI LH 2.4
1-3-3 Throttle position (TP) switch signal faulty on idling
DTC conditions
The control module interprets a signal from the idle switch when engine speed is above 1500 rpm and at part loads indicating that the engine cannot idle.
Causes of fault:
Grounding in the control module wiring. The idle switch will not cut out.
Fault symptoms:
Above normal idling speed.
EG1
Checking the idle switch
- Turn the throttle pulley a little and listen to hear it the idle switch clicks.
If the switch clicks:
^ DTM 2 EG2.
If the switch does not click:
^ WC. Adjust the TP switch. WC. Adjusting the TP Switch
EG2
Diagnostic test mode (DTM) 2
^ Go into DTM 2 and check the TP switch in accordance with CB1 and CB5. CB. Manual Initiation
If code 3-3-2 is received:
Intermittent fault.
^ Check the wiring between terminal 2 in the TP switch connector and MFI #2 as well as terminal 2 in the connector and DI #7 for intermittent grounding in accordance with NA3. NA. Checking the Wiring
^ Clean the TP switch connector and treat it for corrosion in accordance with NA7. NA. Checking the Wiring
If code 3-3-2 is not received:
^ Checking the TP switch EG3.
EG3
Checking the throttle position (TP) switch
- Ignition off.
- Disconnect the TP switch.
Connect an ohmmeter between terminals 18 and 2 on the TP switch.
The ohmmeter should read approx. 0 ohms.
- Open the throttle a little.
The ohmmeter should read infinite resistance.
If both readings are OK:
^ Check the wiring between terminal 2 in the TP switch connector and MFI #2, as well as terminal 2 in the connector and DI #7, for grounding in accordance with NA3. NA. Checking the Wiring
^ Clean the TP switch connector and treat it for corrosion in accordance with NA7. NA. Checking the Wiring
If either or both of the readings are incorrect:
^ Try using a new TP switch.
