100127 Removing engine from transmission and mounting engine on transmission
WM 100127 Removing engine from transmission and mounting engine on transmission
Tools
Technical values
Preliminary work
1. Engine removed. Engine/transmission unit is on the lifting platform.
2. Transport eyebolt 9700/2 must be fitted. Prepare workshop crane and lifting tackle. -> 1001IN Lifting the engine with a workshop crane 1001IN Lifting the engine with a workshop crane
Removing engine from transmission
Information
- When removing the engine, ensure that the torque converter in the automatic transmission does not slip out of the transmission.
- Keep the torque converter pressed in position using a screwdriver when removing the engine.
1. Loosen ATF line on the engine. -arrow-

4. Remove the coolant hoses and valves above the transmission.
5. Open up heat protection and expose cables. -1 and 2-

7. Spray the six nuts securing the exhaust manifold to the catalytic converter with anti-rust agent and leave it to take effect. Loosen catalytic converters on the exhaust manifolds (six nuts) -arrows- and remove catalytic converters -> 267319 Removing and installing (main) catalytic converter Service and Repair.

8. Remove starter.
9. Loosen screws on the converter threaded joint through the installation opening on the starter. Turn and counter at the vibration balancer.
10. Remove screws between the engine and transmission until there is one screw left at the side. => Side locking screw between engine and transmission

WARNING
Objects or loads falling down
- Risk of squashing or crushing
-> Secure components to prevent them from falling down.
13. Carefully lift the engine/transmission unit and remove the two engine mountings (second worker presses suspended engine up slightly). Support the transmission by placing a wooden plank on the axle-body cross member underneath it and slowly lower the engine/transmission unit.
14. Remove the last screw between the engine and transmission.
15. Press the torque converter off the drive plate through the installation opening on the starter. => Pressing off torque converter

2. Lift the engine with the workshop crane and move it into installation position with respect to the transmission. Put engine and transmission together. The dowel sleeves on the engine must slip perfectly into the bores on the transmission bell housing.
3. Fit and screw in fastening screws for securing transmission to engine. This involves screwing in screws on the engine side and screws on the transmission side. For tightening torques, see -> 373519 Removing and installing transmission.
4. Remove special tool centering pin 9689 and fit torque converter screws. For tightening torques, see -> 373519 Removing and installing transmission
5. Fit engine mountings.
5.1. Carefully lift on engine/transmission unit.
5.2. Remove wooden block under transmission.
5.3. Fit engine mountings according to markings applied during removal. Lug on engine mountings fits into the hole on the engine support arm. Fit screws and new nuts.

5.4. Carefully lower engine/transmission unit.
5.5. Screw on engine mountings. -> 103519 Removing and installing engine mounting (hydraulic mount) Service and Repair
6. Fit starter.
7. Fit new seals and nuts on catalytic converters and move into installation position. Tighten the nuts securing the exhaust manifold to the catalytic converter -arrows-. Install catalytic converters -> 267319 Removing and installing (main) catalytic converter Service and Repair.

11. Fit the coolant hoses and valves above the transmission.
12. Secure coolant pipes on the transmission (two screws). -arrows- => Tightening torque: 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.)
