Preliminary work

Preliminary work for removing and installing condenser/evaporator line at the front

1. Remove engine guard. -> 108019 Removing and installing engine guard - section on "Removing" 108019 Removing and installing engine guard

5. Remove alarm siren. -> 966519 Removing and installing alarm siren - section on "Removing" Service and Repair
6. Remove vacuum line for brake booster. -> 477719 Removing and installing brake booster vacuum line - section on "Removing"
7. Disconnect hydraulic fluid reservoir and set it aside. -> 489719 Removing and installing reservoir - section on "Removing" Service and Repair
8. Vehicles with PDCC:
Disconnect PDCC reservoir and set it aside. -> 430955 Replacing reservoir (PDCC) Service and Repair
9. Drain the air conditioning system. -> 870317 Adding refrigerant and removing by suction Service and Repair
10. Remove the brake lines from the brake master cylinder to the hydraulic unit.

-> Observe the instructions for repairing air conditioning systems and storing spare parts.

Information

Always replace the sealing rings on the refrigerant lines.





Refrigerant line from condenser to expansion valve

1. Loosen the fastening screw -1- on the top refrigerant line -2- at the condenser.

2. Loosen the fastening nut -1- on the holder -2- for the refrigerant line and remove the refrigerant line -3- from the holder.

3. Remove the refrigerant line from the compressor to the connection point. -> 874519 Removing and installing compressor/evaporator line - section on "Removing" 874519 Removing and installing compressor/evaporator line
4. Unclip refrigerant lines -1, 2- from the holder -3- on the left wheel housing.

5. Pull the refrigerant lines -1, 2- together with the rubber boot -3- up -arrow- out of the bulkhead -4-.

6. Unclip the refrigerant line from the holders in the plenum panel.

6.1. Unclip vacuum line -1- from the upper parts of the holders -2, 3-.
6.2. Open the upper parts of the holders -2, 3- using a suitable tool and bend them up -arrows-.
6.3. Remove refrigerant line -4- from the lower parts of the holders -5, 6-.
7. Unscrew inner fastening screw -1- on the DME control unit bracket and remove water drip pan -2-.

8. Remove front part of refrigerant line from the compressor to the evaporator from the vehicle.
9. Unscrew the two fastening screws -3- for the refrigerant lines -4- on the expansion valve -5-.

10. Pull the two refrigerant lines -4- out of expansion valve -5- and move them up/down to keep them out of the way.
11. Take the refrigerant line out of the vehicle.

Installing condenser/evaporator line at the front

NOTICE

Too much refrigerant oil in new air conditioning compressor.

- Risk of damage to air conditioning components.

-> Do not start engine.
-> Do not tow the vehicle.

Information

Always replace the sealing rings on the refrigerant lines.

1. Fit the refrigerant line in the vehicle.
2. Position the refrigerant lines -4- on the expansion valve -5- and press them into place. Do not tilt.

3. Tighten the two fastening screws -3- used to secure the refrigerant lines to the expansion valve -5- to => Tightening torque: 12 Nm (9 ftlb.)+/-1.5 Nm (+/-1 ftlb.).
4. Fit water drip pan -2- and tighten fastening screws -1- to => Tightening torque: 8 Nm (6 ftlb.).

5. Clip refrigerant lines into the holders in the plenum panel.

5.1. Insert refrigerant line -4- into the lower parts of the holders -5, 6-.
5.2. Close upper parts of holders -2, 3- ( -arrows- ) and clip them in.
5.3. Clip vacuum line -1- into the upper parts of the holders -2, 3-.
6. Insert the refrigerant lines -1, 2- together with the rubber boot -3- from above -arrow- into the bulkhead -4-.
Check that the rubber boot -3- is seated correctly.

7. Clip refrigerant lines -1, 2- into the holder -3- on the left wheel housing.

8. Position refrigerant line -3- with the holder -2- at the front and fit the fastening nut -1-.

9. Fit the top refrigerant line -1- on the condenser.
Check that the guide sleeve is seated correctly.

Tighten the fastening screw -2- securing the refrigerant line -1- to the condenser to => Tightening torque: 12 Nm (9 ftlb.).

Subsequent work

Subsequent work for removing and installing condenser/evaporator line at the front

1. Fill the air conditioning system with refrigerant. -> 870317 Adding refrigerant and removing by suction Service and Repair
2. Open air outlet vents on the dashboard and set fan to at least 75 %.
3. After allowing the system to stabilise at idle speed (approx. 5 sec.), switch on air conditioning and allow the engine to run uninterrupted for at least 2 minutes at an engine speed of less than => Engine speed: 1500 rpm.
4. Switch off the air conditioning again. Do not drive until the air conditioning system has been filled.
5. Vehicles with PDCC:
Fit PDCC reservoir. -> 430955 Replacing reservoir (PDCC) Service and Repair
6. Fit hydraulic fluid reservoir. -> 489719 Removing and installing reservoir - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
7. Fit the brake lines from the brake master cylinder to the hydraulic unit.
8. Install vacuum line for the brake booster. -> 477719 Removing and installing brake booster vacuum line - section on "Installing"
9. Fit alarm siren. -> 966519 Removing and installing alarm siren - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
10. Fit the brake booster. -> 477019 Removing and installing brake booster - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
11. Install right cross panel. -> 508119 Removing and installing cross panel - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
12. Install left air cleaner housing. -> 242519 Removing and installing air cleaner housing - section on "Installing"
13. Install engine guard. -> 108019 Removing and installing engine guard - section on "Installing" 108019 Removing and installing engine guard
